Mathewsies
I'm in my busiest season of the year so blog posts are lacking! I know.
Anyway, I wanted to bring to your attention a most wonderful visit from the Mathews family a few weeks ago. Has it really already been a few weeks? Sad! Come back!
I love when family comes to visit and it is especially wonderful when ALL of the Mathewsies come. That meant that we went to Sotheby's to see what was being sold (some awesome things) and it's pretty neat to see prices next to works of art that you thought were priceless. Ok, maybe some of them are priceless or at least out of my price range... Will and I played a game where he had to memorize everything that he could on the 4th floor and an hour after we left I would ask him a question and if he got it right he would get a dollar. I ended up asking the questions as soon as we left because neither of us could wait a whole hour, and it was so fun! I recommend it. He's a smart kid.
His sister is smart too... and a ballerina!
Speaking of his sister... she turned 16! In New York! With me! Oh, what a blessing to have this lovely girl in my family. We celebrated by going to Nobu and eating lots of tasty food.
To end off their wonderful trip David came to town (woooohooooo) and we walked for MS in honor of Uncle Marc's friend and former colleague who died from MS. It was a gorgeous day and we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge twice much to the chagrin of the bicyclists who like to yell at pedestrians. That's New York! Can I just say that if you want to ride your bicycle over the Brooklyn Bride on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon you are c-r-a-z-y. Why would you put yourself through that? Oh well, another question for another day. Then we all went to the Meatball Shop because that's just what you do after walking a lot.

Happy weekend everyone!
Isabelle Tours!
I'm going on tour with David!
Well, not really.
However, I am taking advantage of my one weekend off all summer (oh boy!) to follow the husband around. So, here's my crazy plan. Bus to DC. Bus to Pittsburgh. Bus to Cleveland. Fly to NYC. What do you think?
Yep, that's what I thought.
Off-topic. Sometimes I really do look like an Isabug.

Books! Where She Went
Where She Went
by Gayle Forman
I went home to Charleston over the weekend and took my latest book club read with me. Where She Went is a sequel to If I Stay and I debated for a good while whether I should read the 2nd without knowing anything about the 1st. In the end I decided to go ahead and read it. I was sucked in after 2 chapters and there was no turning back to find out what happened in the first book.
From what I can tell, the first book was written from Mia's perspective. The second, from Adam's.
Here we go. Let me try to explain this simply, since that's the only way I know how.
Many years after a horrible accident we find Adam in NYC. Adam is a famous rockstar. Mia (the SHE in Where She Went) is a cellist extraordinaire. They lost contact (rather abruptly) at the beginning of college, but Adam hasn't stopped thinking about her. Since this is told from Adam's perspective (I believe the first was told from Mia's) we immediately know how depressed he is from his life on the road, unresolved feelings about Mia and his struggle to get along with his band mates. I think that he's a great narrator and as the story unfolds we learn more about the accident and where Mia went. That's as much as I'll tell you with starting to spoil things.
I really do want to go back and read the first book now, just so that I can have a better appreciation for what happened. There won't be any spoilers of what will happen at the end! since I am well aware of what happened, but I'm still curious to dive deeper into this relationship. I really like Mia and Adam and hearing a story told from his perspective you could really feel the aching and sorrow he felt from being without her. I also liked that he was a rockstar and talked about being on the road, because my own dear husband is on the road and I like anything that relates back to him... and for some reason this book made me want to be a better wife. I KNOW. CRAZY. Why is a YA novel with that cover making me want to be a better wife. No idea. I'm weird and confused. Let's just stop there before I tell you any other embarrassing secrets.
P.S. If you've read the first one and the second one I'd love to know what you thought! I'm actually going to go buy the first one now...
